MORE INFOWhy do you need the Best Welding Lens?
As a professional welder, one of the simplest yet most overlooked accessories is a good welding lens. These are attached to your welding helmet and protect your eyes and head from all sorts of potential damage. Also, they make it so that you can see clearly in all situations, which is very important if you want to do a good job. Finally, they should protect your eyes from UV and IR radiation from the welding process.
Please keep in mind that there is a big difference between welding safety glasses and welding lenses. Welding safety glasses are stand-alone and are more or less like sunglasses. On the other hand, the welding lens will fit directly onto your welding helmet.
Believe it or not, there is a lot of technology that goes into producing the best welding lens. This is similar to any sort of professional lens from sunglasses to ski goggles. First and foremost, the material used to make the welding lens is very important. In general, you have polycarbonate and glass lens. Polycarbonate lenses are more popular because they are cheaper and won’t break like glass. However, glass is available in more shades.
Next, you need to select the right shade and intensity of your lens for the task at hand. The most important thing to keep in mind is the shade number, which indicated how much darkness the lens will provide. Keep in mind most shades are designed to absorb a different color and are more suitable for certain applications. You can fix shade lenses that are much cheaper and don’t vary in intensity. Then there are variable shading lenses, which have a range of shades and intensities but are much more expensive.
Finally, there are auto-darkening welding lenses that will change shades based on the wavelength struck, which is a really great feature to have. Please keep in mind that most welding lenses require some sort of power source such as batteries or solar power.

For those who need the best welding lens that is highly customizable, the Trusoxin Big View is definitely a great option. The entire unit is 5.2 by 4.5 inches but the actual lens is 2.4 by 4 inches. We think the beauty of having this welding lens is that there are just so many features available for you to adjust. It features 4 arc sensors and 3 adjustable knobs that control shade, sensitivity, and delay. Sensitivity refers to the time from light to dark and the delay time refers to the time from dark to bright.
Additionally, there is a power test knob and low power warning. We really like the 3-way function toggle that lets you switch from up-welding to mid-cut to down-grind. The Up weld function is mainly for TIG, MMA, and MIG welding. The Mid Cut function is for plasma cutting. And the down grind function is for polished metal. Finally, this unit takes solar power and Li batteries. All in all, this is a decent welding lens with lots of features. What it lacks is a bit of clarity but makes up for it with functionality.

3. Wal Front Support Solar Auto Darkening Welding Lens
The Wal Front Support Solar Auto Darkening Lens is the best welding lens for those who are on a budget. Although this is a pretty cheap welding lens, we think it definitely delivers a lot of value. The view from it is quite clear as it contains a multilayer optical interference filter. The clarity of the lens is nothing compared to the more premium brands, but it definitely gets the job done.
Our biggest complaint is that the viewable area is a bit small at 3.5 by 1.2 inches. However, the small view area is made up of other useful features, such as the automatic on and off function, which is very convenient, efficient, and conserves batteries. It should fit all standard welding helmet window openings and gives you good protection from all sorts of hazards.
