You get everything you need to get started with this kit, so the only thing you need is money. And that is the only drawback we see since it is pretty pricey.

If you are looking for a hammered dulcimer and don’t really want to shell out big money for one, the Persian Quality Dulcimer by Ekberi is the best-hammered dulcimer for you. It is made of high-quality walnut wood, brass, and steel and comes with extra strings, two hammers, a tuning wrench, and a hard case. It is safe to say everything works as advertised.
The real issue we have with this dulcimer is that nothing is especially outstanding about it. It is a little hard to tune and the tonal quality is ok but nothing outstanding. So basically this is an entry-level hammered dulcimer that is great for beginners and those who don’t have high standards. But if you want something more pro, go with Master Works.

#3.Roosebeck 12/11 Hammered Dulcimer
Roosebeck is another great manufacturer of Hammered Dulcimers that is somewhere in between professional and entry-level. They make the best-hammered dulcimer for value-minded customers. This is a 12/11 dulcimer, which means it has 12 courses of strings crossing the treble bridge and 11 courses of strings crossing the bass bridge. Roosebeck offers other configurations if you want as well.
The main thing we like about this brand is that it is reliable. It has a long sales history and has been around the industry long enough to build a nice reputation for itself. No, it is not a Master Works, nor does it try to be. But we think that it comes close enough and the discount to Master Works is significant enough to where value consumers will switch.

#4.Mid-East Persian Hammer Dulcimer
The Mid-East Persian Hammer Dulcimer is another brand quite like Roosebeck, but we think they are a bit less established. They too appeal to valued customers. This brand strikes the fine middle ground between performance, quality, and price. Like the Roosebeck, it offers a decent amount of tonal quality at a price point that won’t break the bank.
We actually like the Mid-East brand more when it comes to ease of tuning, but we think the Roosebeck has a slight advantage in terms of overall sound quality. Either way, you can’t really go wrong here and both brands are going to sound better than the entry-level Ekberi mentioned above.

Lastly, we have the SALA Persian Dulcimer which we view as a slight step up from the Ekberi mentioned above. In terms of sound quality and performance, it is somewhere between Ekberi and Roosebeck. So call this a beginner to the intermediate hammered dulcimer. It is good enough for most people actually and it is priced just right such that you don’t feel like you are overpaying for anything.
Yes, of course, tuning will be a bit more difficult and the build quality of the instrument is nothing remotely close to that of the Master Works, sadly to hear. However, for all intents and purposes, it works and has pretty good durability for such a cheaply priced “professional” hammered dulcimer.
