We really like the Penn Plax Undergravel Filter and think it is the best Undergravel filter because it is basically the gold standard in the industry. It does a good job in hiding from your view to max outlooks. While this particular filter is good for 40 to 50-gallon tanks, you can pick a size from Penn Plax that fits your aquarium. Also, there are clips to hold each section securely together.
We really like the effortless setup and the easy maintenance of this unit. All you need to do is to place the filter at the bottom and cover it a bit with gravel. Finally, this filter includes four filter plates that are 11.5 inches by 11.5 inches. It also comes with an extra large one-inch adjustable lift tube.

The Aquarium Equip under Gravel Filter is a biological filtration system for fresh or saltwater aquariums and is one of our favorites. This filter circulates water via the gravel bed and gives it oxygen. Please just note that at least 1 to 2 inches of washed gravel should be placed on top of the filter plate before you add water.
This Under Gravel Filter works as advertised and seems pretty well constructed. Also, it fits most 10-gallon fish tanks. Overall, it is pretty cheap but surprisingly good quality for an under gravel filter manufactured by a Chinese company. If you want a good bang for the buck, this filter is the one.

The ISTA Undergravel Filter does a great job in circulating the water Undergravel layer in order to reduce the corruption of gravel. It is definitely a quality reliable product. We like how the gravel bed provides a great surface area for nitrobacteria and also keeps your water crystal clear.
Additionally, the filter plate can be connected with an air pump, filter pump, and a submersible power head/ hang-on filter. These help increase circulation and aid in mechanical and chemical filtration. Finally, just remember to adjust the lift tube to your desired height. Also, we like how the silence design tube head can reduce noise.

The Imagitarium Undergravel Filter is the best Undergravel filter that helps keep aquarium water fresh and clean at a low cost. It even comes with two filter cartridges. Although this particular model is only compatible with fish tanks up to 10 gallons, Imagitarium definitely sells filters for various size tanks.
We really like that this is a two-plate filtration system that is durably constructed and is also made to hide behind your aquarium tank’s substrate. Finally, just know that this Undergravel filter is pretty durable and last twice as long as many of the other filters on the market.
