#1.Coaster Home Furnishings Grandfather Clock
After doing extensive amounts of research, we decided that the best grandfather clock for the average consumer is the Coaster Home Furnishings Clock for its style, durability, and price. Surely it is not the most expensive nor is it the most accurate or even the best craftsmanship. However, the Coaster Home Furnishings Grandfather Clock beats everyone on the price-to-quality ratio.
In terms of specs, it has a west minister chiming movement, a mid-height build, a red-brown finish, and nice artistic details. And of course, it is made of real solid wood that definitely does not feel cheap. In the end, you are paying for something that is very much functional and looks decent. It may not have all the bells and whistles of a real grandfather clock that is expensive but for the average person, it’s good.
#2.Howard Miller J.H. Miller II Clock
For those of you who want the absolutely best grandfather clock, you should know by now that Howard Miller is a legend. The J.H. Miller II Clock is a limited edition and exclusively for those who can afford it. There is an old saying about the price that if you have to ask you can’t afford it. This definitely applies to the Howard Miller clocks. It is finished on Windsor Cherry with 16 different species of rare woods.
The list goes on in terms of all-star features and design, so we will spare you the trouble of listing all of them. Just know that it is fully loaded in terms of functionality as well as design and aesthetics. And finally, just know that it has a Kieninger cable-driven, triple-melody, nine-tubular chime movement to stay accurate. This will need to be wounded occasionally.
#3.ACME 01410 Filmour Grandfather Clock
In our opinion, the ACME Filmour is the best grandfather clock if you are on a budget and looking for something with lots of value. It has a warm oak finish with a gold and silver-toned clock face and pendulum. Additionally, it has two doors – a tall sash door and another little one just in front of the face. It has a solid hardwood finish and comes with nice and refined carvings and craftsmanship.
Sure, the quality is definitely not the best nor is it anywhere close to being called a top-end grandfather clock. So keep your expectations low for a clock in this price range. Overall, this is a decent-quality grandfather clock for its price. The material and finishings are a bit cheap, but for the price range, we don’t think it gets much better.
#4.Major-Q Traditional Grandfather Clock
We think the Major-Q Traditional Grandfather Clock is certainly a step up from the low-end budget models but definitely not nearly as elegant as say a Howard Miller. First and foremost, we like how this clock is mechanical and has a winding mechanism, so batteries are not required. We think the movement works quite well and is fairly accurate.
In terms of features, it has fluted moldings and a carved panel. Also, it has a carved open fretwork bonnet top and 2 wood framed glass doors, It strikes at half an hour and on the hour mark. In terms of design and style, we really like its elegance and would even say it looks like a high-end grandfather clock but without the hefty price tag.
#5.Hermle Foreman Grandfather Clock
Finally, we have the Hermle Foreman Grandfather Clock, which is definitely a top-end model and brand. This clock is handcrafted in the USA and is made of solid American cherry. Additionally, it features a solid German 9-bell movement, which is a very accurate and complicated movement. It rarely goes off track and requires minimal winding.
So this is an 8-day manual movement, which means it will last about 8 days without having to wind up again. It also features 3 very famous clock melodies: Westminster, St. Michaels, and Whittington. Finally, there is an automatic night shut off which is very convenient when you are trying to sleep. All in all, everything about this clock is pretty much perfect.
