#1.Hell’s Forge Portable Propane Gas Forge
If you are interested in the best gas forge, we highly recommend you try out the Hell’s Forge Portable Propane Gas Forge. This is a double forge burner furnace with a 2300F capability. In terms of size, this forge is quite large coming in at 19 inches by 6.75 by 3.5 inches. We like this size as it gives you the ideal exposure to a flames sweet spot.
You should also know that it comes with two burners that can either be used simulataneously or one at a time. This will allow the forge to reach extremely high temperatures of 2300F. The Hell’s Forge is definitely your workhorse forge and works well with pretty much any metal. We like that it also includes Hellcoat 3000 Refractory Coating, which is rated at 3000F.
#2.NC Tool Whisper Daddy Gas Forge
The NC Tool Whisper Daddy Gas Forge is the best gas forge for those who want a serious gas forge with size and are willing to pay up. This is a 3 burner forge with open ends for bar stock. We really like this gas forge because it performs the best. It gives you uniformly distributed heat at 2350 Fahrenheit and has some crazy high efficiency burners.
This burner gas forge also features a push button ignition and a really quick recovery, meaning that it heats and reheats metals very quickly. Also, just know that it is fitted for propane. However, you can certainly tweek it a bit to work with natural gas as well if you like. Finally, it is pretty lightweight and surprisingly transportable.
#3.Simond Stone Portable Gas Farrier Forge
Another great option when it comes to the best gas forge is the Simond Stone Portable Gas Farrier Forge. To start off, it is made of 16 gauge polished stainless steel grade metal sheets. So you already know right off the bat that it is going to be pretty durable. It is also lined by a one inch thick high density ceramic fiber blanket which acts as really nice insulation to keep heat in.
This is a single burner propane forge furnace and it has a 2600 degree capacity, which is more than enough for most projects. And we really like the fact that it is portable. And lastly, we just want to add that it features a refractory fire brick at the bottom in order to resist high velocity firing. We think that this is a nice finishing touch.
#4.Hell’s Kitchen Tools Single Gas Forge Burner
The Hell’s Kitchen Tools Single Gas Forge Burner is a great example of a small compact and wildly efficent gas forge that is meant for the most people. This is the average person’s workhorse gas forge as it has a 2300 Fahrenheit capacity and is incredibly reliable with an uniform heat. It includes 3 fire bricks with a 2700F capacity.
Although it is definitely heavier than most forges in its class, it also means that it is more heavy duty and will burn more efficiently. The trade off is of course that it is harder to transport. Although it is not that annoying to carry it around given that it has two sturdy built in handles to easily get leverage and carry it around alone.
#5.Atlas Mini Forge Stainless Knifemaker Forge
Lastly, we have the Atlas Mini Forge Stainless Knifemaker Forge, which as the name implies is a top knifemaking forge, but can also be used for all sorts of other metal items. We like this forge because it is designed and built by knifemakers, and we just assume they know a bit about what they are doing. It uses insulating firebrick which is softer and very efficient.
Also this firebrick is incredibly safe for your lungs, which is always a plus. The only downside is that the bricks are quite fragile and crack easily under pressure or extreme heat conditions. Overall, we think that this is a well designed forge that is great for beginners all the way to pros. It is definitely something to seriously consider if you concentrate on making knives.
