Why Get Your Dentures Relined?
Well, if you are reading this, chances are you probably need to get your dentures relined because they are just not fitting properly. Because you see, your dentures were made to fit your mouth and your mouth and oral tissues only.
But over time, your gums change and degrade. So to prevent your gums from shrinking faster and your dentures from fitting well, you need to get your dentures to reline once every year or so.
Now you really have two options: do the relining yourself, or have a professional dentist do it but end up paying out of the roof for something that can be done by yourself.
Even if you have insurance, there are still nasty copays, deductibles, and a lot of waiting and lost time. Doing it yourself is also a bit risky but ends up costing a lot less money and is potentially time-saving as well.
What are the Risks of Relining Your Own Dentures?
We are not going to lie, adjusting and relining your own dentures is not risk-free and there is a chance that you can mess them up.
This is why getting the best denture reline kit is of utmost importance because you want to ensure that the kit is quality and you need to be able to easily follow the instructions
But even with the best denture reline kit in hand, you can still potentially mess it up if you are not carefully applying it.
Sometimes you can just blame it on the denture reline kit, which may end up affecting your denture material or messing up your bite. This could potentially cause your dentures to break because there are uneven forces on your dentures.
All in all, it is very important to get a proper education on this stuff before diving into buying a reline kit. Check out different resources on the internet and talk to dentists about whether it is worth it to do a home kit and get your dentures relined yourself.
The Different Types of Denture Reline Kits
Denture reline kits come in three types: soft, hard, and temporary relines. The most common type of denture reline kit is the soft reline because it is generally the longest-lasting one as well as the most comfortable.
This type of reline will typically last for a year or two and will be made of a waxy rubbery material. They are meant for people whose gums are just too tender and who are getting sore spots in their mouths.
On the other hand, a hard reline is a bit rare for home kits and is usually made of a (you guessed it) hard putty. It is a good option if you have full dentures and don’t have soft tender gum issues. It needs fewer adjustments than soft reline kits and is generally less work to install.
Finally, there are temporary denture relines, which are when you go without dentures for a really long time. This also means that you potentially have really red or really sore gums.
You should use the temporary reline as a last resort defense in case a hard or soft reline is just too uncomfortable. Temporary relines really help with the inflammation in your gums and within a few weeks you should return to the dentist to see if your gums are still sore.
Denture Reline Kit Reviews
#1. D.O.C. Reline-It Kit
The D.O.C. Reline-It is the best denture reline kit because it contains two soft relines that are both snug and secure. Also, this is a very affordable kit.
The process of applying it is very easy, as long as you follow the instructions to the dot and are very careful.
There is a bit of a burning sensation that goes away shortly. Also, the taste is much more pleasant than many of the other denture reliners on the market.
Overall, this is a great product with excellent value. Although a tad soft, we do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
#2. Perma Soft Denture Reliner
We like the Perma Soft Denture Reliner Kit because it is a soft but firm reliner for your loose and problematic dentures.
This kit includes one upper and lower denture.
This kit is FDA-approved for over-the-counter use and does not contain any zinc or phthalate.
With this kit, you get long-lasting comfort with no lumps or clumps. It mixes very smoothly and lets you save lots of money from getting them relined at the dentist.
If you do it yourself and do a good job, they should definitely last for a long time.
#3. ProSoft Denture Reliner
The Prosoft Denture Reliner is a temporary soft, denture reliner that provides a snug and comfortable fit for your loose dentures.
Prosoft is made proudly in the USA and includes 2 relines for 2 individual plates. Keep in mind that dentures are not included.
We really like the fact that this kit mixes easily with very low odors. It is both soft and smooth on your gums and does not lump or clump up easily.
All you need to do is mix the powder and liquid for a few seconds until it forms a gel-like consistency. Then just spread it into the denture base.
#4. Acryline Advanced Formula Denture Reliner
We like the Acryline Denture Reliner because it offers a great way to quickly repair your dentures so that they can properly fit in your mouth.
The instructions are pretty easy and straightforward to follow. Just be warned that it is a little messy to mix and apply.
We have to say, the holding power and fit are exceptional. It stays soft and firmly gripped. However, the taste is pretty bad so this is something you have to get used to.
All in all, the Acryline Denture Reliner is a diamond in the rough. It is great in performance but is pretty bad in the odor department.
#5.Sensi-Dent Denture Reliner Kit
We think the Sensi-Dent Denture Reliner is the best denture reliner kit because it uses basically the same materials trusted by dental professionals but at a fraction of the cost.
We would characterize this kit as an extremely easy do-it-yourself denture relining kit that is high quality and professional.
With the Sensi-Dent Kit, you get basically everything you need to put a new soft liner on your dentures. It will last from 6 to 12 months depending on how well you apply it and how you wear them.
All in all, this is a great kit that will save you tons of money from visiting the dentists to get your dentures adjusted.
