Yeah, sure, searching online for the perfect crochet yarn can be frustrating as they all look the same. We searched high and low for the perfect crochet starter kit and we think this is it. This set has 20 assorted colors to choose from and the yarn is extra soft and great for all-purpose use.
Furthermore, the colors are all vibrant and we can’t really find a bad or ugly color. It also includes a 5mm aluminum crochet hook and a reusable storage bag. The quality of the yarn is definitely up there. Although it is not the best quality, we think for most people it is good enough. And at this price point, we think value is more important to the average consumer.

#2.Inscraft Acrylic Yarn Skeins
Another brand that makes our list of the best crochet yarn is Inscraft Acrylic Yarn Skeins. This is a solid 40-color set with all sorts of goodies included as a bonus. Each ball is about 40 yards. This is generally a bigger size than most of the other brands we tried out, including the Mind My Thread brand. You also get 2 crochet hooks, 2 weaving needles, and 4 locking stitch markers.
Overall, we think it is a great choice for beginners as it is strong and soft and not too thick. But in terms of quality, we’d say it is probably below that of Mind My Thread. Also, everything just seems to be a bit poorer quality than Mind My Thread including the carrying bag. However, the trade-off is that this set is cheaper and you get more stuff like 20 more yarns.

#3.Mira Handcrafts Assorted Acrylic Yarn
Next, we have the Mira Handcrafts Assorted Acrylic Yarn, which is the best crochet yarn for those who are looking to stretch their dollar and are on a budget. Like the Inscraft set, you get 40 yarns. In terms of colors, you only get 24 as some colors are duplicates. The colors are not as vibrant as the Inscraft set or the Mind My Thread set. But in terms of quality, we have to put it on par with Inscraft.
All in all, this is a great set of bonbons to learn on for cheap and the yarn itself is decently soft. Just keep your expectations low and know that these are small little skeins and not meant for big projects. Also, just to be clear, we are not saying this set is cheap in quality at all. This is definitely not cheap acrylic yarn as some other reviewers are saying. And just know that it is dirt cheap!

We really like the Craftiss Acrylic Yarn Skeins and think that it deserves a mention in our top list. This set is perfect for small hobby projects for crocheting and comes with 30 unique colors. Perhaps its standout feature is the fact that the colors stay extremely vibrant even after washing, due to the synthetic quality of the acrylic thread. We can’t say the same with other brands on the market.
Overall, the durability is also pretty awesome and is definitely above average. We think how this set doesn’t come with the usual gimmicks like free ebooks or needles. Instead, it focuses more on the quality of the yarn and the colors. In terms of quality, we have to put it next to the Mind My Thread Yarns Skeins Set.

#5.TYH Supplies Acrylic Yarn
Lastly, we have the TYH Supplies Acrylic Yarn Set, which is a nice little set like the Mira Handcrafts Assorted for those on an extreme budget. You get 20 assorted colors with this set with no doubles. We put the quality of the yarns on par with that of the Mira Handcrafts set. So it is not the best, but also not completely terrible so that it is falling off and breaking apart.
It is great for those who want to try out crocheting and don’t want to invest too much time or energy into it. And in our opinion, this yarn set is very easy to work with. We know some people say that the yarn tends to ball up and knot when you are working, but we just want to say that we never experienced this.
