We think that this crab snare trap and bait cage is the perfect setup for beginners. The size and weight are perfect for casting and putting in the bait. Also, it is made of pretty nice materials and doesn’t feel cheap. Finally, these snares work in sandy and rocky bottoms. The only real downside is that we wish that the snares spread out better, but hey we can’t complain too much.

Lastly, we have the FJ Neil Snap Trap which is a pretty sizable bait cage trap for all sorts of crabs. This is a two-door trap that also folds up nicely, making it a portable option as well. We really like the fact that the doors on this crab trap slide open quite easily. We know some people have had difficulties with the doors, but we have not had any problems.
Compared to the four-door traps, we actually prefer this one over most of them. This is because, with the four-door traps, there is a good chance one of the doors won’t open up or malfunction. At the critical moment when the crab decides to come in, you can’t have to happen too often or you just won’t come up with any crabs.
