For those who are interested in the best black pen, the Pilot G2 Retractable Black Pen comes to our mind first. This black pen is the cream of the crop and writes really smoothly, has a nice consistent texture and thickness, and a bold black color that dries quickly. It is retractable and the mechanism is quite sturdy and won’t malfunction. Overall, this pen has a very premium feel and comfort.

#1.Pilot G2 Retractable Black Pen

When it comes to the best black pen, the Pilot G2 Retractable Black Pen is the way to go. This black pen is pretty much the gold standard in the industry. Let’s get real, who hasn’t used a Pilot? What separates the Pilot G2 from the rest of the competition is the fact that it has an extra comfortable grip and a really smooth gliding ink. There are absolutely no jerky movements and consistently thick ink.

We also like how sturdy it is and seems like it will never really break. The retractable clicky button to close the pen is pretty addicting to play around with and the mechanism is pretty much flawless. Also, keep in mind that these are refillable and come in a variety of colors as well so not just black. But they last so long that you probably don’t even have to worry about refilling them.

#2.Paper Mate InkJoy Ballpoint Black Pens

The Paper Mate InkJoy Ballpoint Black Pen is another solid product that we think is the best black pen if you want something other than the Pilot G2 or are just not feeling the thickness of the Pilot. The nice feature of the Paper Mate InkJoy is that it doesn’t feel as chunky as the Pilot G2, which we argue actually gives you more control over your writing and makes a little less strain on your hands.

There’s also a medium 1.0mm tip that draws pretty bold lines that aren’t too thick. And we find it pretty smooth, although not as smooth as the Pilot G2. Also, just keep in mind that the ink runs out fairly quickly compared to the Pilot G2, but luckily there are so many pens in this set that it won’t even matter.

#3.BIC Round Stic Xtra Life Ballpoint Pen

Another great product when it comes to the best black pen is the BIC Round Stic Xtra Life Ballpoint Pen. This is your average run-of-the-mill workhorse pen that will never give up. We think if you are going to go for a ballpoint-style pen, the BIC Round Stic is definitely the most reliable. It is fairly smooth for this style of pen, although clearly, the Papermate InkFlow has way better flow.

Also, we really like the fact that it writes the very first time without you having to do that annoying thing where you prime it first by scribbling on a random surface. In other words, the tungsten carbide ball spreads ink out pretty smoothly and consistently, and overall we think this pen has pretty dependable performance.

#4.Uni-ball Vision Rollerball Black Pens

The Uni-ball Vision Rollerball Black Pen is another industry classic that pretty much rivals the Pilot G2. Out of all the black pens we have reviewed, this one probably has the thickness ink. Although it features a 0.7mm fine tip, ink just flows out of this pen like none other. If you prefer this style and want nice juicy thick writing, then this is the right black pen for you.

The Uni-ball Vision also has pretty good ink that protects from all sorts of fading and water. It is the ink of choice if you want writing that will really pop out of the paper. The issue is that the ink is something a bit too strong and will bleed through thin paper. You won’t get this too much with the other brands we mentioned above.

#5.Zebra Pen Z-Grip Black Pens

Lastly, we have the Zebra Pen Z-Grip Black Pen, which is a nice alternative to all of the name brands we mentioned above. This is a 1.0mm medium-point ballpoint pen. We like it because it has fairly low-viscosity black ink that allows you to write pretty smoothly and skip-free. This pretty much allows you to have pretty fast writing speeds compared to other pens.

Additionally, we just really like the color and shade of this black ink as it just has that dark jet-black hue that we really like. Plus it is pretty reliable and just as durable as the other pens. And finally, we just want to say that in term of pure value, we don’t think this black pen can be beaten. It is very cheap for the amount you are getting and good quality pens.
