#1.Sovtek 5751 Vacuum Tube

When it comes to the best 5751 tubes, we have to give them to the Sovtek branded vacuum tubes. The standout feature of these tubes is that they have 70% more gain compared to a 12AX7. We like this tube because it allows for clean headroom and doubles as a great phase inverter or even reverb tube in your amp. These 5751 tubes will definitely revitalize your amp.

Overall these 5751 military-grade tubes have really good build quality and construction. They are made pretty durable and rugged and will definitely last a long time. All in all, it gives a drive channel sound with a crunchy yet very clear distortion. Now it won’t have enough distortion to give you a 60’s British palm mute crunch, so keep your expectations down.

#2.JJ 5751 Preamp Vacuum Tube

The JJ 5751 Preamp Vaccum Tube is another great option and is the best 5751 tube as a replacement for your stock 12ax7s. These tubes allow you to turn the gain up and get a great tube tone. You also don’t have to dip into heavy metal distortion territory with the gain up and there is no noticeable loss of volume. We think that this tube gives you a noticeable improvement over 12ax7s.

Give the same wattage, we think that it gives you more headroom and a warmer and fuller tone. So this nice warm round tone cannot be achieved with other tubes which will not be as dynamic. With these tubes, you also turn down pre-amp gain and it helps warm up the tone. In other words, it is great for when you want to lower a dirty preamp channel for more crunch and less bite.

#3.Tung-Sol 5751 Tube

Next, we have the Tung-Sol 5751 Tube, which is the best 5751 tube if you want great reissued 5751 tubes made in Russia at a very reasonable price point. And just to give you a little history, these tubes actually used to be Electro Harmonix branded. Now they are Tung-Sol branded. It has the same great sound, but just different branding.

And just in case you don’t know, this 5751 tube can be used in lieu of the 12ax7 stocks. By swapping them out, you actually change the colors the sound, and the way the amp performs. Overall, this is a lower gain tube than the 12ax7. It will work perfectly if you use the right circuitry. However, there are also times when it could cause very high distortion or even malfunction.

#4.Pair of JJ 5751 Preamp Tube

So why settle for a single JJ Electronics 5751 Preamp Tube when you can get a pair. With this set, you definitely get much better value and it comes out cheaper than the single. And just to refresh your memory, the JJ 5751 is designed as a rugged high mu, dual triode tube with similar specs and features as a 12AX7 tube.

It is also a very good way to tone-shape an amp and tame a distortion stage with a 30% reduced gain. We like these tubes because they also have great compression and harmonic complexity. It is really good at creating a warmer high-end response and an articulate midrange. Finally, just note that it uses a short plate design.

#5.Tung-Sol Reissue 5751 Tube

Lastly, the Tung-Sol Reissues 5751 Tube is the latest version (reissued) of the classic Tung-Sol 5751 tube. It is one of the better-performing 5751 tubes to date. We like it mostly because it does a great job of smoothing out your circuit when pushing into overdrive. It gives you more headroom without sacrificing tone.

This also enhances the tonal range of every amp in the V1 spot. Also, keep in mind that it is a lower output tube, so you can turn the volume a bit higher without the amp getting too loud at a lower volume setting. All in all, these are great tubes that you are swapping out for in lieu of 12ax7. In our opinion, they are simply better than your stocks and cheap enough for you to give them a try.
