We really like the Roberts 70-193A and think that it is a tank of insulation underlayment. If it is sound blocking you are going after, the Roberts Underlayment will do this that and do it very very well.
It is even STC and IIC rated, which basically means some professional third party came over to test the soundproof ability of the underlayment and gave it a score. Needless to say, the Roberts underlayment hits all of the marks and will prevent everything from sound passing through downstairs to heavy footsteps.

The Amerique Underlayment For Wood Flooring is another industry classic that is really good value for your money. This is a nice underlayment padding with a 3 in 1 vapor barrier. This also means that the Amerique provides pretty decent mold and moisture protection and is just slightly worse than the BlackJack mentioned above. This also helps extend the durability of this underlayment.
Also, we like that it has this anti-crush technology, which goes to extend shelf life as well as keeps your wood flooring from rubbing together and squeaking. Basically, it maintains its thickness well. Overall, we like these over most other brands. It is easy to cut and does not rip when you walk all over it. Installation is also quite simple and straightforward.
