#1.Rust-Oleum 302596 Chalked Spray Paint

When it comes to spraying down wood, we think the best spray paint for wood is the Rust-Oleum Chalked Spray Paint. This is a great oil-based formula that dries to a chalky smooth finish. We like how one can cover about 12 square feet which is more than enough for most projects. Also, it dries to the touch in about 20 minutes.

Additionally, we really like how easy it is to apply this spray paint and how well it adheres to the wood. Even as a complete beginner, you can’t possibly mess it up. Overall, this is a quick and easy spray paint that can be used indoors and outdoors. And we find it does especially well with wood and rarely chips, peels, or fades.

#2.Krylon K08800007 Dual Superbond Paint

If you want the best spray paint for wood, you should definitely take a look at the Krylon Dual Superbond Paint. It is offered in about 28 different colors and is available in gloss, satin, and flat finishes. While this spray paint is designed for metal and to prevent rust and corrosion, we think it is also very very good at protecting wood.

We like how it is also a paint and primer combo. It does a very good job in priming the surface for durability and coverage as well as filling the surface with a very quality finish. We really like how there is no sanding or priming required. One thing to keep in mind is that it is a very light and thin coat, so you may need to spray it multiple times.

#3.PlastiKote General Purpose Premium Enamel

We think the PlastiKote General Purpose Premium Enamel is the best spray paint for wood in that it does quite a good job of resisting scratches, water damage, and fading. Additionally, this premium enamel offers a high gloss finish and comes in a large variety of different colors. In particular, we like the chestnut brown to match with wood’s natural color.

One thing we also want to add is that it is incredibly UV resistant and won’t fade or turn yellow. This is incredibly important for wood that has been outside for a long time. Finally, it goes on thicker and stronger than Rust-Oleum and Krylon which adds to the durability and lifespan. The only thing is applying it is a bit harder.

#4.Rust-Oleum Universal All Surface Spray Paint

Although the Rust-Oleum Universal All Surface Spray Paint is designed for pretty much any surface and angle, we think it is quite possibly one of the best spray paints for wood as well. While it does go on quite thin (so you may need a second layer) we think it is incredibly easy to work with and definitely dries out very easily.

And having something that adheres very well at any angle is important, especially for Do It Yourself beginners who aren’t quite sure how to handle spray paint. Overall, we think it is well worth the money and is definitely a quality zinc coating that blows the competition away. We put it right up there with ZRC.

#5.Krylon K03607000 Wood Stain

Finally, we have the Krylon Wood Stain, which is quite a powerful spray paint for wood. Not only does it paint the top layer of your wood but also it penetrates deep into the wood to protect it longer. This stuff requires only one coat, unlike some wood spray paints. Also, it will chip and peel way less often than traditional spray paint for wood.

It is also nice to know that you do not even need to primer the wood surface before using this product, which gives you this incredibly natural look to your wood. Unfortunately, one of the pitfalls is that there is no choice of sheens and no real color options to pick from.
