For those who are interested in the best dahlia fertilizer, we think that the Jacks Classic No.4 is the way to go. It is probably the most effective fertilizer that we have used for dahlias and beats out all of the other brands in terms of efficacy. We also like it because it works on most flowering plants and is pretty good value for your money.

#1.Jacks Classic No.4 10-30-20 Fertilizer – Best Blossom Booster

We tried a large amount of fertilizers on the market to find the best dahlia fertilizer to date. So far our research shows that the Jacks Classic No.4 seems to be the most effective. While this is not a traditional 10-20-20, which actually think that it does an even better job of making Dahlia’s grow. And yes, we sure did compare it to common brands like Miracle Grow.

But we strongly urge you to follow the instructions and not over-fertilize your plants. This fertilizer can pretty much be used on all flowering plants without worrying about killing your plants or flowers. And in terms of value, we think that you get tremendous performance for what you are paying retail for this fertilizer. So it is a good bang for the buck as well.

#2.Lilly Miller Morcrop Vegetable Food 5-10-10

While we know that the Lilly Miller Corcrop is intended for vegetables, we actually find that it works miraculously for dahlias as well. You just have to kind of take a leap of faith and try it out. While this may not be the best dahlia fertilizer in terms of overall efficacy compared to Jacks Classic No. 4, it sure does work great on certain batches that just can’t seem to grow properly.

We like that it is specially formulated with slow and quick-release nitrogen which works wonders with dahlias actually. Also, it is fortified with essential plant minerals, also great for dahlias. Overall, this product is great but a bit less consistent than the Jacks Classic No.4. This just means that you will get some dead plants every now and then.

#3.Dr. Earth Flower Girl Fertilizer

Next, we have the Dr. Earth Flower Girl Fertilizer, which is the best dahlia fertilizer if you want bigger and more abundant dahlia flowers. It supports stronger roots and maximum blooms. This is a 4-10-7 fertilizer and it is extremely effective at taking care of dahlias as well as all sorts of flowering and potted plants around your home.

In general, we find that the absorption rate is very high for this fertilizer and it is a very safe fertilizer to use. This means that there are very few dead flowers which is always a plus. We like that it contains 8 different strains of ecto and endo mycorrhizae, which actually contributes a lot to drought tolerance. This is great if you don’t naturally water your dahlias.

#4.Miracle-Gro All-Purpose Plant Food

No list of the best dahlia fertilizer is complete without at least mentioning Micracle-Gro, which is basically your mass-produced commercial fertilizer that gets the job done. If you are looking for a name brand and want all the safety and security that comes with it, this is the right product for you. Just know that it won’t have the best efficacy or give you the best results.

However, what it does deliver is that it is extremely safe on your plants and won’t result in overfertilization or killing your dahlias. There is very little chance you can give your dahlia too much. Finally, there are very few harsh chemicals in Miracle Grow to harm your dahlias at all. It is also made for the lazy person as you just need to use it once every 2 weeks.

#5.Osmocote Smart Release Plant Food

Lastly, we recommend the Osmocote Smart Release Plant Food, which has a high total nutritional content. This is a 14-14-14 fertilizer and works at pretty low soil temperatures. We think that it does a really good job of promoting strong root growth as well as lush above-ground growth. The Osmocote Smart Release contains a nutrient granule coated with semi-permeable resin.

The standout feature is the fact that it has a smart release, which basically means that the coating will allow water to penetrate it and release the nutrients inside. Also, we like the idea that more nutrients are released during warmer temperatures which is more beneficial for your dahlias.
