Although it is not as accurate as a Sage ESN, it certainly won’t cast dry like a Winston Super 10. And one of the star features is that it has just the right amount of weight for its length and line rating.
In terms of sensitivity, we would say that this is probably the most sensitive euro nymph rod we’ve tested, and we have definitely tested a lot. Overall, for a mid-priced rod, we are very pleasantly surprised with the build quality. The DXF has a nice stiff backbone and doesn’t make you work too hard to put flies at the right spot.

Additionally, we found that the Sage ESN HD treads a very fine line between sensitivity and casting ability and has a very nice balance between the two. In other words, it is easy enough to cast while remaining sensitive. Also, it helps that it has an amazing grip with a great finish.
#3.Cortland Competition Nymph Rod
If you are more of a value-minded consumer and want the best nymphing rod only if it is going to be a good bargain, we think that the Cortland Competition will be right up your alley. The Cortland is a long rod that is a bit butt heavy, which helps minimize arm and wrist strain as well as maintain balance. There’s also an uncoated blank and thin cork handle, which gives you fast action.
The rod is also built with sensitivity in mind and has a very soft sensitive tip. Additionally, it certainly packs in some punch and has some serious flex for big fish. In terms of durability, as far as we can tell it is durable enough for its amazing price point. Although it is not coated, we have yet to see that being a major problem down the line.

The Thomas & Thomas Contact Series Nymph Fly Rod is another industry holy grail that should not be overlooked. In our opinion, it is incredibly comfortable and even lighter than a Sage ESN. What we find the standout feature is that this rod doesn’t tire you out after long periods of time. Also, it is pretty amazing at casting long distances, if that is your thing.
Another talking point is that it is just a nice fast-action rod that also maintains tip sensitivity, which is quite rare for a rod of this type. And lastly, we just want to say that it is extremely accurate but all of this comes at a steep price point. Let’s just say it is certainly not a cheap rod.
#5.Berkley Fenwick World Class Fly Nymph Rod
Lastly, there’s the Berkley Fenwick World Class Fly Nymph Rod, which made our list because it is just like it. But we are pretty sure others can agree with us here. Overall, this is a very nice rod for its entry-level price point and is a pretty fast-action rod with a nice and light feel to it.
It works very well for nymphing in tight quarters and allows for very easy line control. In general, it is pretty amazing at fishing in a range of conditions and waters. If you don’t really want to commit too much money and want a solid entry-level nymphing rod, the Berkley Fenwick is an amazing choice.
