Overall, we think that it works pretty much as advertised. You just install the two whistles under your bumper and it admits a high-pitched noise to deer and other animals.
This high-pitched sound makes these animals move out of the range of the high-pitched noise. In our opinion, the Bell Automotive whistle just has a better range than most of the other whistles we tried. More importantly, we find that it is very easy to attach and detach from your car. Another one of our top choices when it comes to the best deer whistle is the Custom Accessories Deer Alert Whistles. This brand is super cheap but also quite reliable in steering deer away from your vehicle. We have confirmed these to work by doing an in-field test. We generally found that deer tend to get scared away on the road as well as some other small road-crossing animals.
Whether or not this is due to the whistle or the sound of the car, we cannot fully confirm but at least we can confirm that deer won’t come close to your vehicle while it is going more than 30 mph. The Katzco Save A Deer is a pretty good deer whistle that emits an ultrasonic sound that is inaudible to the human ear but does a great job of keeping deer away. We really like this unit because it seems to have a pretty good range while being highly effective. From our experience, deer were noticeably more shy about approaching your vehicle with this installed.
Although this device is pretty cheap, overall, we think it is sturdy enough to hold up through the elements and the rain. It can also survive car washes unharmed, provided that you glue it right. It is pretty easy to install as well as all you need to do is to peel off the cover and stick it to your bumper or grill. We also recommend using stronger tape to reinforce it.

Lastly, we have the Hopkins nVISION Trailblazer Deer Alert, which is a bit of a different device than the airstream-operated whistles. This deer whistle requires you to hook it up to a power source. The trade-off is that you get a whistle that works significantly better than the traditional plastic deer whistles that work by wind speed.
Also, you can set it to activate via high beams, a dash-mounted switch, or using the ignition button and controls. There’s also an included switch to activate the sound. Furthermore, the range on this deer whistle is absolutely amazing and goes out for at least a quarter mile. This is significantly better than most other brands out there.
