#1.MacGregor MCB67 Umpire’s Leg Guards
MacGregor makes very solid sports protection and their Umpire’s leg guards are no exception. In terms of cost to quality, we don’t think it gets any better than this. We think the MacGregor MCB67 is the best umpire shin guard because it offers the best bang for the buck. It comes with molded ABS construction and closed-cell foam that is very long-lasting.
This fully pads your ankles and has a 12-inch shin plate. One of our biggest complaints is that it is a bit tough to take on and off and requires a bit of practice. Once you have figured out how to manage the comfort level of these leg guards, we really think they provide tremendous value.
#2.Wilson West Vest Umpire Leg Guards
The Wilson West Best is definitely the gold standard when it comes to umpiring leg guards. While the price is sky high, it is indisputable that it offers the best quality out of all the umpire shin guards we tried. In terms of features, the Wilson West does not disappoint. It has expanded adjustable ankle plates and an adjustable triple knee cap. There is also reinforced padding along the shins.
We also like the bridged comfort system, which is just a fancy way of saying it provides the best protection around the knees and shins without sacrificing comfort. Finally, just note that everything about these leg guards feels premium. The material, the design, and the way it fits are pretty much all perfect. The only imperfection is the price point.
#3.Diamond Sports Umpire’s Ultralite Leg Guard
We really like the Diamond Sports Leg Guard and think it is the best umpire shin guard if you want maximum comfort. The shin and leg guard uses this technology called iX3, which is a lightweight padding that is fully ventilated.
Basically, this means that these shin guards give you maximum comfort and the sweat from your legs doesn’t collect and ventilate on the shin guards. Also, the straps and everything are quite easy to put on and take off making it convenient before or after games. There is also a detachable toe strap.
#4.Champion Sports Professional Umpire Leg Guard
The Champion Sports Professional Umpire Leg Guard offers superior protection and a great fit. We really like the adjustable knee cap, giving you the best possible fit, and can be used in baseball. We also like how the size can be adjusted from 15 inches all the way up to 18 inches and all of this fits under your leg pants.
Additionally, the foot liner as well as the shin and knee caps are all removable and easily washable. They can be put back and taken out with ease. Overall, this is the best shin guard for those who consider comfort and fit the most important aspect of an umpire shin guard.
#5.Champro Pro Plus Umpire Leg Guard
We really like the Champro Pro Plus Leg Guard because of its full calf and ankle wing design. These added wings on the side really help with those situations where your legs are caught at a bad angle. Additionally, we like the extra long-hinged foot cap, which is a godsend for those who don’t like to wear any protection on their feet. Also, note that it is easily removed with a screwdriver.
In terms of upper leg protection, the Champro does not disappoint. It has a double knee pad which gives added upper leg protection without sacrificing comfort. Finally, just know that it comes in three different sizes and weighs about 3 pounds.
