#1.Reinsman Wool Contour Trail Saddle Pad
For those who are interested in the best saddle pad for trail riding, the Reinsman Wool Contour Trail Saddle Pad is certainly a very nice choice. It is made from wool felt and has a nice contour shape. We really like the fact that this saddle pad does a great job compared to other brands when it comes to wicking away moisture as well as shock protection due to the wool.
The wool also works better than other materials in conforming to the horse’s back and actually results in way less slippage. These are all important in long-distance trail riding. Lastly, in terms of looks, we like that this saddle pad uses heavy oiled grain out leather which means that your leather will be less dried out and will crack less.

#2.ThinLine Ultra Western Sheepskin Pad
Next up, we have a way more premium saddle pad for trail riding, which is the ThinLine Ultra Western Sheepskin Pad. This is made of 100% pure medical-grade merino sheepskin wool. Everything about this saddle pad is pretty much premium from the comfort and general performance to the durability. It wicks away moisture, fits your horse perfectly without slipping, and is just tough.
We like it because it manages to be incredibly lightweight and breathable while still having the quality and durability of heavier saddle pads. There’s also a higher wither profile for a perfect fit. With this saddle pad, your horse can definitely feel more comfortable going long distances. The only drawback is that it is quite pricey, so you better be willing to pay up.

#3.Diamond Wool Saddle Pad For Trail Riding
Another great product when it comes to the best saddle pad for trail riding is the Diamond Wool Saddle Pad. It is made of wool felt and cut to fit western round skirt saddles. Additionally, we like that it has a nice contoured spine with a wither relief notch. This is reinforced with distressed leather and the pad dries out really easily after long periods of riding.
We like it because it is not too thick and not too thin, so basically just the right amount of padding. It does a great job of not slipping and has great coverage. It covers just enough to cover the entire saddle with basically no excess showing. We also think that it has pretty good value and is reasonably priced for the quality you get.

#4.Best Friend Western Style Bareback Saddle Pad
The Best Friend Western Style Bareback Saddle Pad is perfect for those who want a cheap saddle pad that gets the job done. The good part about this saddle pad is that it is very cheap and easy to take care of. The quality is not exactly is best as it is made of this rather cheap synthetic suede material.
However, we do find that they have enough traction and grip and are pretty non-slip as well as breathable. It is filled with high-density foam which actually gives you a comfortable ride. Also, we like that it comes in a variety of colors which is a nice plus, and even comes with this nice bottle holder. Sure it is not a professional saddle pad but it’s not trying to be one.

#5.Intrepid Western Saddle Pad For Trail Riding
Lastly, we have the Intrepid Western Saddle Pad, which is yet another saddle pad that fits budget-minded people. It has a nice synthetic suede trim that also features a real wool bottom. This saddle pad works well with a Tucker-style square-skirted saddle and comes in a few colorways. They are built quite rugged for trail riding and wick away moisture better than others in this price range.
Additionally, we really like how it is easily washable and can be cleaned in the washer and dryer. We think the quality is pretty good for what is it priced at and presents an alternative to the Best Friend saddle. If you are looking for supreme quality, construction, and performance, you should look elsewhere, but if you keep your expectations low, this is a great saddle at a great price.
