We think the Scientific Anglers Deluxe Fly Tying Kit is the best fly-tying kit because it includes everything you need to get started to fly fishing for cheap. You can make dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, and streamers. This kit is made of the highest quality material and comes in a very rugged and sturdy box that is both lightweight and ergonomic.

You end up getting a solid starter vise with a fixed angle head and versatile c-clamp base, along with a threader, a bobbin, hackle pliers, scissors, threads, hooks, tinsel, and wire. As a nice bonus, you get a DVD explainer video on fly fishing. Ok, it is not the most loaded fly-tying kit, but those kits are really expensive and in our view not worth it.

#2.Zephr Travel Fly Tying Kit

If you are looking for a more premium fly-tying kit, the Zephr kit is the way to go. It includes 12 premium tools designed to help you make flies effortlessly. We really like the EZ travel bag included with this kit, which is nice and durable, and fit for travel. It does a good job of protecting the stuff on the inside.

You get a wide variety of tools with this kit including a hair stacker, two bobbins, rotating hackle pliers, two scissors, a whip finishing tool, a bodkin pick, bobbin threader, dubbing twister, and tweezers. Overall, we have to say that the quality of the tools and case is pretty high and we would gladly pay the market premium for this fly-tying kit.

The Orvis Fly-tying kit is definitely a great kit if you have the funds to splurge on something really nice. This is a high-quality vise and toolset designed by a famous fly fishing videographer. This kit includes materials for 16 patterns and 10 flies each. This means you get a total of 160 unique flies to make.

Of the 16 patterns, 8 patterns are basic and 8 patterns are premium. You also get a ceramic lined bobbin, scissors, bodkin, half-hitch tool, hackle plier, hair stacker, and whip finish tool. All in all, this is such a high-quality fly-tying kit and we wouldn’t hesitate to order it as long as you are willing to pay a steep price.

The Colorado Anglers kit is a pretty standard tool kit for anglers and flies fishers alike. It is great for fly tying and other fishing activities. We actually like that the kit comes in a portable old-school wooden box. It gives it a bit of a nostalgic feel.

With this kit, you get 7 tools and one vise. We think it is very nice for a beginner as it has all of the essentials. Overall, you can’t really expect much from this fly-tying kit. It is functional and geared towards beginners and is definitely cheap.
