Yes, this snaffle is viewed more like a training bit, but for trail riding, you want to maximize both comforts for your horse and your control. The Weaver snaffle bit is also quite versatile and fits most mouth sizes. Although it is a bit heavier than we anticipated, it is also nothing overwhelming heavier. It is certainly not the best-made bit out there, but we think it offers great value for trail riding.

Next up, we have the Aime Western SS Bit, which is the best bit for trail riding if you want a bit more flexibility and comfort for your horse than the Weaver bit mentioned above.
This snaffle bit features a 5-inch mouthpiece and a 3-inch offset D ring. One of the standout features of this bit is that it has a copper inlay, which creates a nice subtly sweet flavor.
This sweet iron mouthpiece with the copper inlay helps your horses salivate and really prevents them from getting a dry mouth which we find is especially useful during long trail rides. Although it is a bit more expensive than the Weaver brand mentioned above, we think that the premium is well worth it in added comfort for your horse.

Another great product when it comes to the best bit for trail riding is the Colorado Saddlery Bit For Trail Riding. This bit is just like the Aime Western mentioned above in that it has a copper roller mouth.
The copper rollers in this bit are very durable and do a great job of calming nerves and helping your horse salivate. They are also quite easy on your horse’s mouth and don’t exert too much pressure.
While it is great for training horses who are nervous or get excited easily, we think that it works great on long trail rides as the copper roller distracts the horse. And overall, we think the quality is pretty much on par with the Aime Western brand mentioned above. You might want to order both and see which one your horse likes more.

The Coronet Medium Curb Bit is another great recommendation when it comes to trail riding. Coronet is an amazing brand associated with quality and excellent craftsmanship.
The medium curb bit also has a mild copper port which gives a fair amount of tongue relief and salivation. It features grazing-style shanks and stainless steel shanks with brass overlays.
We like this curb bit because it gives you plenty of leverage while still providing a decent amount of tongue relief for your horse during trail rides, where you should encourage them to salivate. The copper is soft and most horses definitely like the taste of it. It is readily accepted by horses and won’t hurt a horse’s mouth.
